film photography opened the door to documenting our lives in the 1880’s, transporting you to the footsteps of bygone humanity.

film photos of couples married and celebrating

If you’re here, it probably means that you care about having your wedding documented in a way that feels honest and real.

Not just having photos, but having the right ones.

The kind that make you feel something every time you look at them.

film just has this feeling

We photographed their entire wedding day on film, back when we were shooting on Canon AE-1 programs and manual focus lenses.

They wanted us to focus on capturing the realness of their wedding day, that indescribable genuine feeling of…

Focus on the outcome they want. Make the image on the left auto-rotate between images from this gallery (gif?)

Extraordinary videos deserve extraordinary care, so we ensure every aspect of the process is ultra-secure.

Talk about the services I offer

The nitty gritty of Super 8 videography works a little (a lot) differently than digital video. When we shoot, we load the cameras up with rolls of 8mm film about 50 feet long, which equates to about 2-3 minutes each. You’re right, that’s not lot, which makes the format pricey for longer captures. But when utilized carefully, we gather enough content to create two super 8 wedding videos for you.

Greetings,

I’m Alexa, your film wedding photographer, possibly. My passion for documentary story-telling is rooted in photographing my own life HERE on real film. I use the same cameras for weddings, not only for nostalgia, but because they tell the truth in a way I trust. I’ll photograph your wedding with the same care I give my own days. There’s a longer explanation somewhere on this site, if that’s your thing. About Me →

we don’t photograph weddings on digital, and we don’t want to

Super 8 yields a distinctly old feel that defies whatever decade it’s exposed to, so it’s a perfect compliment to the film photography we offer.

We also use it in our own life, or at least whenever it’s appropriate to aim the thing at something memorable.

We wager you’d like us to point it at your memories, too.

Working

Together

Mostly, I watch. Sometimes I guide, but I don’t rush moments along or over-polish them. The truth is that some of the most candid photographs happen when things are slightly off script, strange, and unpredictable. This leaves room for curiosity, capturing with care, humor, and a touch of restraint (and cinema). Documentation is kept from becoming the focus.

If I’ve done it well, you won’t remember much about me documenting it all. Just that your wedding felt like itself and the images carry the cinematic feel. The most honest record is never the most polished, but it is the one worth remembering.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • A mix of documentary wedding photography and cinematic composition, with a strong focus on capturing candid moments.

My role as your photographer is to observe your wedding day, not direct it. I’m creating images that feel like you were inside the moment, not pulled out of it. If I’ve done my job well, you won’t notice most of the photos I’ve taken.

So if you’re drawn to photos that feel honest, unposed, and cinematic without being overproduced, you’re in the right place.

  • Documentary wedding photography focuses on photographing moments without interruption, quietly noticing moments, and leaning into the perfectly imperfect nature of weddings.

Traditional wedding photography typically focuses on capturing a pre-determined set of images, stiff posing, and predictable, homogenized lighting.

I watch and wait for moments to happen instead of directing them. My presence at your wedding should have a light footprint, which means fewer interruptions, natural interactions, and images that represent how your day actually happened.

You’ll still get guidance when it matters, but the day won’t revolve around the camera.

  • I stay close, but not intrusive.

Most of the day is photographed candidly by watching for emotional interactions, shifts in energy, and the in between moments that often go unnoticed.

When direction is needed, it’s minimal and just enough to keep things flowing naturally without turning the day into a photoshoot.

This is what allows the work to feel both documentary and cinematic at the same time.

  • I’m based near Asheville, North Carolina, and photograph weddings throughout the country.

I travel frequently for weddings, both within the U.S. and internationally.

Whether your wedding is in Asheville or somewhere completely different, my approach stays the same with honest, documentary coverage with a cinematic feel.

  • By not making the day about photos.

Most couples I work with don’t want to feel posed or overly directed. And that makes sense, because you should be present and truly living your wedding day.

Instead of telling you what to do, I create space for you to just be together. I create the images you see on this website my prompting you to do something rather than stiffly direct you here and there, move your hand a little to the left, look at each other… you get the gist.

By doing this, you’re not really hyper focused on what you’re doing. Instead, you’re enjoying being with one another and the images will feel genuine and like yourselves.

  • Film plays a big role in the overall feel of the images.

It naturally softens light, holds color differently, and adds a sense of depth that digital often tries to imitate. That’s where the cinematic quality comes from, but it’s not just the medium.

    It’s the combination of:

    • timing

    • composition

    • restraint

Film supports the look, but the documentary, candid, and intentional approach is what makes the work feel the way it does.
